FBC 1609 wind-load inspection checklist for Florida commercial assets

Practical inspection-side checklist for components and cladding findings that intersect with Florida Building Code Section 1609 wind-load requirements.

Last reviewed: 2024-Q4

Scope

This checklist is for commercial structural inspectors documenting condition issues that may implicate wind-load provisions of FBC 1609. It is not a substitute for a licensed engineering wind-load analysis.

Field items to capture

Roof membrane fastening, parapet flashing continuity, exposed cladding anchors, window system pressure ratings, balcony and guardrail attachments, canopy and sign anchorage.

Evidence to collect

Scaled photos, as-built drawing references where available, product approval numbers for HVHZ jurisdictions, and any prior repair documentation.

Engineer review gate

Findings that suggest wind-load deficiencies (not just maintenance wear) must route to a licensed engineer before any conclusion is expressed in the report.
